Chic Young - the voice of Scottish Football??????

September 16, 2008 by TheSaint

If ever there was a reason for witholding your licence fee then this is surely it. Chic Young - recently elevated to the so called position of “Football Correspondent of BBC Scotland” has a new(ish) blog on the Scottish Football pages of the BBC website.

If you’re expecting quality then you might be disappointed. Reading through his first few articles it’s clear that the bald yin has lost the plot. Comment after comment is either deleted or a lambasting of his playground journalism.

One fan summed it up perfectly….. “I used to think you were a an annoying, but fairly harmless, hack who pandered to whatever you thought would get the biggest laugh. Your utterances over the course of the last week have caused me to reconsider. Maybe it’s the elevation to the so called “Football Correspondent of BBC Scotland” but you seem to have lost whatever marbles you had left.”

Here here!

If you can actually be bothered reading the drivel published in his articles then you will be rewarded by third rate cliches, terrible attempts a humour, unfinished paragraphs and a dismatling of the English language. Journalism it certainly is not!

Forget Chic and his ramblings. The real quality in his blog comes from the hilarious rebuttals provided by the commenters. Aside from the scores of comments deleted or censored by the beeb there are some pure gems - guaranteed to make you chuckle.

On his post titled “A nation holds its breath”, one fan comments “Please, no more Chick. Your dismantling of the English language is more depressing than any Balkan defeat of the Scots. I can’t take it any more! Is Scotland’s leading(?) commentator on the national game really a linguistic criminal who can’t even finish sentences, let alone put together a paragraph without a defiantly terrible drawn-out metaphor?”

Another fans correctly points out that “Mr Young offers no analysis of Scotland’s chances, just horribly mangled metaphors and tired jokes about getting drunk.”  A point well made - especially when Mr Young states “The football comes first. Reach the finals and there will be many nights out to be had in the South African summer of 2010.” Er….it’s winter in South Africa when the finals take place Chic!!!!

Surely the “Football correspondent of BBC Scotland” should be charged with giving us informed analysis and views? It would appear not!  As usual, he is clueless when it comes to real football talk.He has little (and in most cases no) knowledge of tactics or players. You only need to look at “that” interview with Walter Smith a few years back for proof.(warning some fruity language is used).

However it is the fans who get the last laugh. In his nation holds its breath article there are numerous comments that it appears that Chic has deleted but look at the hidden message in comment #43.

Sums it all up - eh Chic?
