Fans vent at plans to demolish McDiarmid Park stand
September 10, 2008 by admin
Saints fans reacted angrily after Geoff Brown (Chairmain) announced plans to demolish one of the stands at McDiarmid park. The reson given was to solve traffic jams around the ground.
The proposal is to demolish the North stand and in it’s place, a £10 million layout with link up road. Perth & Kinross council are currently considering the proposals.
The chairmain was quoted: “St Johnstone has always been a community club and this would help Perth. I’d envisage financial benefits to the club for many years to come.” He added “Even without the North Stand we’d still be able to accommodate around 8500 fans and that’s more than the stadiums in Inverness and Falkirk.”

No idea what Geoff Brown is thinking of. Certainly not the fans!!!
If Saints think fans are fooled by this as a “conjestion” solution then they must think we are on a bannana boat sailing up the tay!
This is nothing more than a land excercise for Geoff Brown to build houses on. It’s not in the interests of the club and hasn’t been shown to be.
St.Johnstone is going downhill fast. The run in the 1st division, the crappy new website, the string of awful results and now they’re demolishing one of the stands. What’s next? Part time football?
Bruce McDiarmid will be turning in his grave as someone pointed out in the forum!!!!
It’s a business deal straight and simple and nothing to do with furthering the club.
When every other club is trying to improve itself Saints are obviously downsizing or more likely preparing for life in the lower leagues. There’s very little ambition at this club and it shows.
