Yet “another PR shambles” say fans as Rangers game cancelled!
February 20, 2010 by admin · Leave a Comment
Angry fans have been let down yet again by the announcement that today’s home game against league leaders Rangers has been cancelled due to a frozen pitch. The game was due to be televised live on Sky but the referee cancelled at approximately 11.45 this morning.
No statement from the club has been forthcoming but it is believed that the under soil heating system has failed again, leaving the pitch frozen.
The referee was apparently seen talking on Sky sports earlier about the pitch - (ironically) in front of an advertising board displaying the words “Easy heat”.
This is the second time in as many weeks that a match has been cancelled due to a frozen pitch - the first time being due to an apparent fault in the undersoil heating.
The cancellation of todays game pours incredible embarrassment on the club and fans all over have quick to express their anger at the club’s latest cancellation.
“This could not have came at a worse time” said one saints fan “The club have let us down yet again It was only a few weeks ago we (Saints fans) were criticising Falkirk for the same thing and now we,ve done it twice in the last few weeks. What a shambles. I wouldn’t be surprised if they (Saints) get a huge fine and Sky don’t come back to show any more games here”.
David MacKay, a fan who travelled from Dornoch to watch the match commented “I’ve a good mind to claim expenses from the club for wasting my time travelling all the way from Inverness. It’s ridiculous and it’s no wonder that their attendences are so bad.”
Aside from the embarrassment the cancellation has caused the club, the momentum the players had hoped to carry over from the 5-1 win againts hibs in midweek must surely affected.
The game is apparently rescheduled for this coming Wednesday
Saint 5 Hibs 1

Saints knocked 5 past a dreary and uninspiring Hibs side who were clearly suffering a weekend hangover from their weekend encounter with Rangers which saw them defeated.
In front of a dismal home support, Saints knocked two past the Hibees goalie in the first 10 minutes of the game.
And to be honest, Saints never once looked like losing the game. Deuchar and Cillian worked hard throughout the match.
A sending off in the second half made the task all the easier for saints and the late penalty sealed the win.
Derek McInnes was quoted as saying that a “big win was on the cards” but maybe the wee man should haud his wheesht as it’s a wee bit premature and perhaps tempting fate for a serious humping. Lets hope Saints don’t get cocky and go for all out attack, leaving us exposed at the back.
In the end however, saints won and that’s all that matters.
See the BBC report below for a sensible unbiased view:
However, Derek McInnes
St Johnstone’s superb display in their 5-1 league thumping of Hibernian has been on the cards, according to delighted manager Derek McInnes.
“I thought it was a terrific performance. I feel a result like that has been coming,” he told BBC Scotland.
“I thought today we got a bit clinical in front of goal.
“We had a real drive about us right from the off. It’s an important three points for us. The boys should take confidence from that result.”
The Perth Saints never looked like losing the game at McDiarmid Park and dominated their opponents throughout, though their task was made easier by Colin Nish’s second-half sending off.
Two goals apiece by Liam Craig and Cillian Sheridan, plus one by Kenny Deuchar, gave Saints a commanding victory.
“Tonight we won the individual battles that allowed us to get the performance,” said McInnes.
“The two boys up top (Deuchar and Sheridan) worked really hard. They seemed to have a good understanding.
“I’m delighted for Cillian. He has been working away, trying to get fitness and he is showing more aggression. He can be proud of his performance tonight.
“If you give those Hibs players time, they will hurt you. The ball for their goal - I think it was Ian Murray or John Rankin, a 60-70 yard diagonal ball - shows you the quality they had.”
There was, though, one piece of bad news on an otherwise thrilling night for St Johnstone. Deuchar was stretchered off late in the match and looks likely to be out for the next few weeks with an ankle ligament injury.

RICHIE BYRNE hopes to rebuild his career after joining Saints.
The Irish defender agreed to an emergency one month deal has not played a competitive game since october.
It was hoped he could kick start his career after signing with Inverness Caley but since Terry Butcher took over he has been unable to get a game.
Byrne has had impressive times at Aberdeen and Dunfermline. He insists he is ready to take up the challenge if McInnes wants to include him in the team at Queen of the South tomorrow.
Byrne who’s last competitive games was for Oldham in October is confident of making an impact should he be given a start.

And not before time… After some woeful results at the start of the season Saints cashed in a win to Dingwall’s Ross County.
Trinidad and tobago striker Collin Samuel knocked in two goals either side of half-time to obtain a vital three points for St.Johnstone.
A Gavin Swankie free kick enabled Samuel to head in the first goal in the 29th minute. He extended the lead early in the second half when he outran the Dingwall team’s defence to fire in from close range.
There was a scare midway through the second half however. Richard Brittain’s 70th minute goal saw the deficit reduced and the heart rates of Saints fans increased but St.Johnstone held on to take all three points.

Saints fans reacted angrily after Geoff Brown (Chairmain) announced plans to demolish one of the stands at McDiarmid park. The reson given was to solve traffic jams around the ground.
The proposal is to demolish the North stand and in it’s place, a £10 million layout with link up road. Perth & Kinross council are currently considering the proposals.
The chairmain was quoted: “St Johnstone has always been a community club and this would help Perth. I’d envisage financial benefits to the club for many years to come.” He added “Even without the North Stand we’d still be able to accommodate around 8500 fans and that’s more than the stadiums in Inverness and Falkirk.”
