CHAIRMAN'S THOUGHTS ON APPOINTMENT
27 NOVEMBER 2007
Derek McInnes has this morning been unveiled as the new Saints Manager.
Chairman Geoff Brown and his Board of Directors have wasted no time in finding a successor to Owen Coyle and the 36 year old midfielder has been given a two and a half year contract
Speaking at a press conference to make the announcement Chairman Geoff Brown said, “After the bombshell of Owen taking up the opportunity to go to Burnley we asked Sandy to take charge of the side for Sunday’s cup final which he duly did. In between times the Board of Directors discussed the way forward and although we were inundated with applicants for the post we felt that the club was in a not dissimilar position to when Paul Sturrock left and that if we could appoint from within we should do so.
“Derek has been in the game a long time and in the eleven months he has been here he has been a superb professional. He came to St Johnstone on the understanding that he could be involved in coaching the Under 19s and reserves and that has happened.
“Sandy Stewart advised me on Sunday evening that he was accepting Owen’s offer to join him at Burnley so it was never in the equation that Sandy could be offered the job and in Derek the Board of Directors believe they are making the correct appointment.”
